Allen Kirsch has been with BFDT for about two years, and is a retired K9 officer and police dog trainer with over 15 years of experience competing, working, and training dogs. He has trained K9 teams in explosive detection, basic and advanced obedience, agility, canine patrol, tracking, scent detection, building search and evidence search. He is also a lifelong dog owner who has experience raising German shepherd and Standard poodle puppies.
We asked Allen a few questions so that you could get to know him better!
BFDT: What brought you to Best Friend’s Dog Training?
Allen: I began looking for ideas to train dogs privately shortly after I retired in July, 2019. I came to find Best Friend’s Dog Training on a web search and after reading the owner, Frank Bonomo’s bio, I said to myself, “this is the guy I need to be working with.” Frank has an extraordinary background with dogs and is a wealth of knowledge. He helped me to advance as a trainer and taught me new ideas to excel with training dogs.
BFDT: Can you tell us a little about your training background/experience?
Allen: I am an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. I am also a certified judge and trainer for the United States Police Canine Association, and I’ve received numerous first place awards with the USPCA for K9 obedience and agility as well as first place team at the 2019 USPCA National Detector Dog Trials. I’ve also performed K9 demonstrations for school children of all ages, as well as K9 demonstrations for the AKC’s Meet the Breeds at the Jacob Javitz Center in NYC.
BFDT: How would you describe how you specifically can help our clients and their dogs?
Allen: I am a lifelong dog owner and a retired police canine handler and trainer. I have competed with working dogs throughout the country. With my experience and education, I can teach owners the safe and proper handling of their dogs. I can teach them about their dog's behavior. I can explain what their dog is doing, why it is doing it and how to correct it. I am an expert on problem solving dogs' behavior. I have a passion for dogs and use a loving and caring way to give owners the confidence they need to be the best dog owners they can be.
BFDT: What is one weird, random, and/or fun thing about you that most people don't know (or wouldn't expect) about you?
Allen: I dream about dogs.
BFDT: Last question...what do you like to do for fun?
Allen: I am an amateur guitar player!
